Paper crafting gives me balance in a very hectic life, as a wife, mother and quilt shop owner. Sharing my love of creating is easy, as a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator and as a quilter. It doesn't matter which medium you choose, I think creativity keeps you young.
A fellow Demonstrator, Julie Gilson of Stampin’ Gala, created this card, and I was instantly smitten. I chose not to change it up, as I thought it was perfect the way it is. You can find the link at her site http://www.stampingala.com, and she also has a “how to” video on YouTube.

Yesterday, a baby Indigo Bunting flew into the window at our quilt shop in Cobourg. Glen brought him home, as one of his wings is damaged. It seems to be improving, as it’s not as droopy as it was yesterday, but he still can’t fly. Today, we found a used birdcage at Petticoat Lane, in Cobourg. Petticoat Lane is a thrift shop that supports the auxiliary at the Cobourg Hospital. I was getting frustrated with our search for a birdcage, as I wasn’t crazy about buying a new cage for a short term guest. All they asked for cage was $2.50. Seriously! The bird seed cost more lol. We’ve named him “Smurf”, and I have to say, he’s anxious to get out of dodge. As soon as his wing heals, he’ll be a free agent.
I love this card. I received it after the ON Stage in Orlando, last year from a fellow demonstrator. Carolyn is part of my “greater” team (not sure where we connect, as we all stem from the same Upline, somewhere along the line.
I feel like I need to go somewhere where there’s wine, cheese, beautiful brick roads, lovely bistros… I could go on.
This card is made using the masking technique. I stamped the woman first, in the middle of the Whisper White card stock. I created a mask of her, by stamping the same image onto Post-it Removable label tape (Amazon). You need to cut the mask out, right on the lines, so that you don’t have any blank areas around her later. Once you have her cut out, place her exactly on top of the original stamp, then stamp the background right over her. I used the Mediterranean Moments Stamp set for the background. It’s a shame this set is retiring. I love it!!
When you remove the mask, it looks as if you magically stamped the background all around her. I used an aqua painter and the same colour of ink, as the card base to give her a little colour, then a very light water colour of the Soft Suede in the background for depth. I “winkified” her dress with Wink of Stella, for some pizzazz, while she was dancing on the Piazza.
I used the “friend” from the Waterfront Stamp set, because the font is fun!
Card Base – Bermuda Bay 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4
Soft Suede – 4 x 5 1/4
Bermuda Bay – 3 x 4 1/4
Whisper White – 2 3/4 x 4
I’m glad I ordered the Large Letters Framelits before they retire next month. I had wanted them for a while, but when I realized they weren’t carrying over to the new Annual Catalogue, I knew I had to get them before they were gone!
I love making my own backgrounds, so I used Flirty Flamingo ink, on Flirty Flamingo card stock to make the background on the card front. I used the floral DistINKtive stamp from April’s Paper Pumpkin, but you can use any floral or texture stamp to create tone on tone backgrounds. One of my favourite EASY techniques.
I used one of the texture stamps from the Beauty Abounds stamp set, and created a very subtle background on the Whisper White card stock, using Flirty Flamingo, Mint Macaron and So Saffron. First, I smudged the three inks randomly (just a bit) for some light background colour, using the sponge daubers. Then I stamped off twice, before actually stamping with the texture stamp, on the white card, so it was just barely a hint of colour.
I used the Large Letter dies to cut out the word LOVE. I used Post-it repositionable tape to hold the dies in place on the card stock, so I could run them through the big shot, without them shifting.
I used mini-dimensional to lift the letters off the card placing the cut outs back into the cut out spaces. I used liquid glue to put the centre of the “0” right onto the card stock.
Once it was all assembled, I gave it a spritz with the Champagne Mist Shimmer spray. This misty spray is easy to make using 70% isopropyl alcohol and a couple of drops of the shimmer paint, in a spritzer tool.
Card Base – Flirty Flamingo 8 1/2 x 5 1/2, score at 4 1/4 Whisper White – 5 x 2 3/4 Whisper White – 5 1/4 x 4 (inside)
I’ve had this stamp set for the longest time, so it’s about time I used it. I actually saw this card on Pinterest – my major source of inspiration – and although the stamp set the artist used is retired, I thought of By the Bay, from this year’s Sale-a-bration. Although it too is unfortunately, no longer available, it’s perfect! If you were lucky enough to get this stamp set during the Sale-a-bration promotion, you got a real gem. Any smaller stamp set would do as well. Just pick a theme!
Card Base – Mint Macaron
Card Front and inside – Whisper White – (2x) 5 1/4 x 4
Squares (3 each) – Whisper White – 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 and 1 1/4 x 1 1/4
