Indigo Bunting Beauty

Yesterday, a baby Indigo Bunting flew into the window at our quilt shop in Cobourg. Glen brought him home, as one of his wings is damaged. It seems to be improving, as it’s not as droopy as it was yesterday, but he still can’t fly. Today, we found a used birdcage at Petticoat Lane, in Cobourg. Petticoat Lane is a thrift shop that supports the auxiliary at the Cobourg Hospital. I was getting frustrated with our search for a birdcage, as I wasn’t crazy about buying a new cage for a short term guest. All they asked for cage was $2.50. Seriously! The bird seed cost more lol. We’ve named him “Smurf”, and I have to say, he’s anxious to get out of dodge. As soon as his wing heals, he’ll be a free agent.

Love Eclipse Card

I’m glad I ordered the Large Letters Framelits before they retire next month. I had wanted them for a while, but when I realized they weren’t carrying over to the new Annual Catalogue, I knew I had to get them before they were gone!

I love making my own backgrounds, so I used Flirty Flamingo ink, on Flirty Flamingo card stock to make the background on the card front. I used the floral DistINKtive stamp from April’s Paper Pumpkin, but you can use any floral or texture stamp to create tone on tone backgrounds. One of my favourite EASY techniques.

I used one of the texture stamps from the Beauty Abounds stamp set, and created a very subtle background on the Whisper White card stock, using Flirty Flamingo, Mint Macaron and So Saffron. First, I smudged the three inks randomly (just a bit) for some light background colour, using the sponge daubers. Then I stamped off twice, before actually stamping with the texture stamp, on the white card, so it was just barely a hint of colour.

I used the Large Letter dies to cut out the word LOVE. I used Post-it repositionable tape to hold the dies in place on the card stock, so I could run them through the big shot, without them shifting.

I used mini-dimensional to lift the letters off the card placing the cut outs back into the cut out spaces. I used liquid glue to put the centre of the “0” right onto the card stock.

Once it was all assembled, I gave it a spritz with the Champagne Mist Shimmer spray. This misty spray is easy to make using 70% isopropyl alcohol and a couple of drops of the shimmer paint, in a spritzer tool.

Card Base – Flirty Flamingo 8 1/2 x 5 1/2, score at 4 1/4
Whisper White – 5 x 2 3/4

By The Bay Thank You Card

Img_1057

I’ve had this stamp set for the longest time, so it’s about time I used it. I actually saw this card on Pinterest – my major source of inspiration – and although the stamp set the artist used is retired, I thought of By the Bay,  from this year’s Sale-a-bration.  Although it too is unfortunately, no longer available, it’s perfect!  If you were lucky enough to get this stamp set during the Sale-a-bration promotion, you got a real gem.  Any smaller stamp set would do as well.  Just pick a theme!

Card Base – Mint Macaron
Card Front and inside – Whisper White – (2x) 5 1/4 x 4
Squares (3 each) – Whisper White – 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 and 1 1/4 x 1 1/4

Discounts and Blue Hair

I had the pleasure of turning 65 last week.  My daughter sent me messages throughout the day and one of them was “bring on the discounts and blue hair”.  Needless to say, I cracked up. I’m all for the discounts, but I’ll pass on the blue hair for now.

My close friend, Doreen, who is also part of my Stampin’ Up! team, spent my birthday weekend with us.  She is a creative one, that’s for sure.

She etched the wine glasses with our team logo and my Critters’n Ink logo, then made this awesome sampler, using the Tropical Chic stamps and dies.  The explosion box card was the piece de resistance, complete with a little birthday cake inside.  The DSP was from the Botanical Butterfly group which was available with Sale-a-bration, this year.

The staff at our quilt shop, The Stitch Witch, all arrived at the store on Tuesday for a surprise celebration lunch.  I was deeply touched that they would all come in on their day off to bring a birthday party to me.  Totally amazing, lovely women.  Debbi, who is off right now, was missing, but I know she was there in spirit. The cake (above) was also part of this party.

Let it ride

This beautifully simple card uses the Stamparatus, to create the illusion of motion. I saw this card on Pinterest, made by Jane Allmark, in the UK. She also has a video showing the technique. Please note that I’ve included the Stampin’ Trimmer, but it is retiring at the end of this catalogue period.

“Love What You Do” Tri-fold Card

32551f4f_dd02_4686_b169_b72b4032cdaa

This is just the sweetest card, using some of our most elegant Designer Series Paper (DSP). The card base is Rich Razzleberry, cut at 11 x 5 1/2. score at 3 3/8 and 7 5/8. You will also cut 1” x 11” from the remnant for the belly band. I used two different pieces of DSP cut at 3 1/8 x 5 1/4, for the two front panels. I used a scrap of Blackberry Bliss for the scalloped oval behind the sentiment, just for a little oomph. The silver self adhesive rose element is from the Share What you Love Embellishments Kit, as well as a couple of the Share What You Love Artisan Pearls. So beautiful!

The sentiment on the inside is on Whisper White 4 x 5 1/4″, and is from the Just Because stamp set, which is a hostess only set in the Occasions catalogue.

Rich Razzleberry – 11 x 5 1/2 and 1″x 11
DSP – (2 different) 3 1/8 x 5 1/4
Whisper White 4 x 5 1/4 and scrap for sentiment
Black Berry Bliss – scrap for scalloped oval
Rich Razzleberry Velvet ribbon – 3-4″

A Little Note

smJVLapjSqmkarMEl5V07w

I love creating my own backgrounds, using a multiple of stamps and colour. Pinterest is a huge inspiration for me.

Card Base – Very Vanilla
Early Espresso 5 1/4×4
Very Vanilla 5 x 3 3/4

I created the background first, using the accent stamps from Beauty Abounds, then added some butterflies from the Butterfly Gala Stamp set. Larger circles in Granny Apple Green, smaller circles in Crushed Curry, sprinkle stamp in Flirty Flamingo and butterflies done in Early Espresso ink. Both of these stamp sets are available in a bundle with dies, as well. You can save 10% when you purchase the bundle option.

Very quick and easy card. I usually make these in multiples, so I’m never without a quick note card.
